Briton Mo Farah became the first man in 20 years to claim the long distance double at the European athletics championships with victory in the 5,000 meters in Barcelona.
Farah, who won the 10,000metres on Tuesday, scorched to glory in last night’s 5,000m final to exact revenge over runner-up Jesus Espana – the Spaniard who pipped him to gold by 0.09secs four years ago.
MO FARAH wrote his name into athletics folklore with a golden double in Barcelona and admitted: ‘ This is unbelievable.’
Farah grinned: “If someone had told me a few months ago that I would be double European champion I would not have believed them. I would have settled for one gold but this is unbelievable. I was always aware of what happened last time when I lost gold by half a second and I had to make sure that didn’t happen again.”
